Everyone at my job has been talking about fall. The amazing seasonal change where the leaves turn colors and then drop; that wonderful crispness that makes you want to grab a light sweater, when the air smells like apple pies and candy corn.
In Houston, people have been talking recently about Autumn because they actually don’t understand what the word really means. It does not mean, now it’s a crisp 90 degrees, wow let’s break out the parkas, but for some reason people here seem to think that. Someone I work with actually said to me today, I had to turn on my heat last night!
Your heat? Really Houston!?
(I will say however, that I did just order a tweed suit. Yay fall!)
I was reminded the other night of this amazing South Park episode (because it was on and then Adam and I were talking about it) where the Goth kids in South Park are getting their reps’ usurped by the newly formed “Vamp” kids. The Vamp kids are pretty much just nerds obsessed with the horrible Twilight series. If you haven’t seen this episode, download it. It’s amazingly hilarious.
Anyway, Butters decides to join the Vamps to stop getting picked on and grounded by his parents. All of a sudden he has black hair and a leather glove and when he is told to do anything by his parent he hisses at them. As seen in the clip below.
After seeing this again, I decided that this was the best way to react to things that I didn’t want to respond to (as oppose to my normal method of pretending I can’t hear) or moreover, when asked to do things I didn’t want to do. Naturally, I started doing this to Rob.
“What’s for dinner?” Hiss! “Can you iron my pants?” Hiss! “I wish someone would help me put my socks on.” Hiss!
This approach to my husband has been so successful that I think I might start doing it at work. “You need to raise 2 million dollars by August 31.” Hiss! “Can you put that report together for me by noon?” Hiss! “Why are you hissing?” Hiss!!
I can’t get fired because as stated (sort of) in this episode… how can you fire, the unfireable?! Brilliant. Hiss!
